Wedding Trends 2025: Our Photography Predictions
Get our hot take on how wedding photography will look in 2025
Religiously following wedding trends is rarely a good idea, as few really stand the test of time. Most often feel dated before the year is out. But it is fun to take inspiration from the experts, and blend their ideas for next year with your own. Picking and choosing the predictions that actually suit your celebration. This is especially easy to do with professional wedding photography, as we’re able to blend different styles, trends, and techniques to create something that feels unique. For instance, if you’ve seen that documentary-style photography is a big 2025 wedding trend. But you don’t want your entire photo album to feel unfiltered, we can bring in those candid moments, and blend them with more orchestrated scenes. Which, overall, helps to stop one style becoming too dominant.
Wedding Photography Trends 2025
Discover how couples will be telling their love stories next year with our 2025 wedding trends report.
Documentary Style Wedding Photography
We hinted at it above, so we might as well start with it, as documentary style photography is certainly one of the biggest 2025 wedding trends. And a reflection of the overall desire modern couples have for authenticity on their big day. Favouring genuine, un-staged moments captured as they unfold. Over traditional portraits and family shots.
We love this trend, and our working goal is always to preserve as many natural scenes as possible. But we’d always advise organising some group shots with your closest loved ones. Because you don’t get another shot at tying the knot, and it will all go so quickly. Before you know it, you’ll be looking back at the photos and regretting you didn’t take a moment to create a keepsake with certain people.
Nostalgic Black and White Photography
Unless you’re really into steam punk, or have always loved the vintage vibe, we’d suggest not having an entirely black and white photo album! But, if you want to give some of your shots a sophisticated, timeless feel, monochrome can really make some images pop.
We love to use black and white photography in portraits, as it often helps focus the emotion of the interaction. Dance floor shots and late night moments also look more dramatic (and cooler) without colour.
Detail Shots
A theme running through many 2025 wedding trends is the capturing of what would have gone unnoticed or, uncaptured. Like zooming in on fine wedding dress details. Or creating keepsake shots of stationery and floral arrangements. These types of detail – orientated photos help tell the story of the day, and they shine a light on the effort that went into planning it.
The Blurred Action Shot
This 2025 wedding trend has carried over from 2024, when it became an incredibly popular way to document the dance floor, or any key moments that involved action. This type of shot is achieved by using a slow shutter speed and capturing movement while the cameraman stays completely still.
As mentioned, a blurred action shot works well in the evening, capturing guests dancing under bright lights. But it’s also an equally effective way to shoot a long, flowing wedding dress or perhaps the first dance. Having the couple in sharp focus, while guests are blurred, creates a wonderfully intimate overall shot.
